Press Release from the rock album Idem

On a sunny day I received a strange phone call:

“Hello, this is Móveis Coloniais de Acaju[1].”

“I’m sorry. I already have furniture.” I answered.

“No, we’re a band from Brasília.”

“Really? I like your music already! With a name like that, the music has got to be good.”

That was it.

I met the guys and thought, I’d like to produce them... but then life took me to Mexico to work on motion picture soundtracks. Too bad…

Not bad at all! They made a damn good CD.

And I was left with the job of writing.

Here we go…

This band mixes Kusturica[2] with Hermeto[3], a bit of Cuba with spaghetti, a bit of São Paulo although from Brasilia, a bit of Brasilia belonging to Brazil, a bit of the world belonging to Earth, and why not, a bit of Karnak with Los Hermanos, a bit of peanuty Pato Fu, a bit of hairy furniture, a bit of thoughtful luck, a bit of lovely pain, a bit of loneliness with bed, bath and guarantor, Gorbachev with Copacabana, Russian Samba, a blind Bossa-Nova with Tom Waits; if it were theater, it would be Tadeus Kantor; if it were a photograph it would be Rodchenko’s, if it were a squirrel it wouldn’t do the samba.

The best part is that they’re none of that.

They simply are

A great Band

With a great sound.

Long live,

André Abujamra
