"Móveis Coloniais de Acaju are a sort of intelligent blender that use an infinity of genres and rhythms without, however, sounding deliberately 'eclectic' ", says journalist Hélio Franco (Correio Braziliense, May 13, 2005).
Móveis have found and conquered their place during the last years. "The band started playing in 1998, but only after playing in various festivals and lots of concerts, they released their CD in 2005, which is of such quality that it guarantees their transition into the big leagues of Brazilian music", says Fernando Rosa, journalist and cultural producer.
The name of the band is based on a historical event - a conflict between indigenous peoples and the Portuguese against the English in the Bananal Island. Just like the origin of its name, which translates into English as "colonial furniture made of mahogany-like wood", the band also has a unique style. Using food analogy, they have described themselves as a "Bulgarian feijoada". This is made evident in their mix of rock and ska influenced by all sorts of world music such as: Eastern European rhythms and Brazilian music.
